Can a parent help keep the journal up to date?

No. The book is optional and charged separately at $119 for up to 300 pages. See the photo book.

Can we buy the photo book without the journal?

No. The book requires the journal. The journal is $49 one time, and there is no standalone book or upload-only option. See the photo book.

What do extra pages cost?

Extra pages are $0.50 each, up to 500 pages in total. The book is $119 for up to 300 pages before those extra pages. See the photo book.

What is the book like?

The book is a hardcover, about 8 x 12 inches, printed on gloss paper. The layout can be edited before the book is ordered. See the photo book.

Photos and the journal

Can we organise the mission in one place as it happens?

Yes. Weekly entries build up in the one private journal, and approved followers follow that same journal. See how it works.

Can we add emails from earlier in the mission?

Yes. Past emails can be forwarded or imported to backfill the journal. They go to the missionary's Follow My Mission address, one at a time or several in the same message. See how it works.

How are several letters in one forwarded email handled?

If one forwarded email contains several letters, Follow My Mission separates them into individual journal entries. Letters attached as .eml files are read too. See how it works.

Is there a limit on past emails or photos?

No. There is no maximum number of past emails, and there is no cap on how many photos a journal can hold. The limits are on file type, file size, and how many files are pulled in in one pass. See how it works.

What are the photo and video size limits?

There is no size check in the app for photos and videos attached to an email, and every photo and video on that email is saved. From a Google Photos shared album, photos and videos can be up to 80 MB each, pulled in 8 per pass, then up to 20 more passes in the same follow-up. See how it works.

What happens if a file is too large?

Anything over those size limits is skipped. See how it works.

What if we send a photo or video that is already in the journal?

A file that matches one already saved is not saved again. See how it works.

Can we add photos and videos from Google Photos?

Yes, photos and videos can be added from a Google Photos shared album. A HEIC or HEIF photo is saved as a JPEG, and a video stays a video, using the highest playable version available. If the album comes back empty, Follow My Mission tries again right away, then up to three more times, three minutes apart, and a Google Photos link-preview image on a forwarded email is skipped so the originals from the shared album are used instead. See how it works.

After the mission

Can we start after the mission has finished?

Yes. Past emails can be forwarded or imported to backfill a journal for a finished mission. See how it works.

How long does the journal stay available?

Journals stay forever. The church removes the missionary Google account about 60 days after the missionary returns from the mission. Weekly emails kept only in that account can be lost, while the Follow My Mission journal stays available. See how it works.

Can we order the photo book after the mission?

Yes. Past emails can be backfilled after the mission, and the book can be ordered from the completed journal. Backfill the journal first if needed, edit the layout, then order the book for $119 up to 300 pages, which requires the journal. See the photo book.
